Muerren Winter Sports
Skiing / Snowboarding: In Muerren you can choose from three glorious ski areas totalling 42 mountain rides and 213 km (132 miles) of groomed runs: the "Mürren-Schilthorn" which is the closest (12 mountain rides - 53 km / 33 miles; fun-snowpark); the "Kleine Scheidegg-Männlichen" (21 mountain rides - 110 km / 68 miles; half-pipe and jump-street), and the "Grindelwald-First" (9 mountain rides - 50 km / 31 miles; snowpark and superpipe). More detailed information on our special Muerren Ski - & Snowboard Site. Cross-Country Skiing: The Alpine topography of the Jungfrau Region, and especially Mürren on its small terrace, offers little space for Nordic cross-country skiing. In the Lauterbrunnen Valley, the 12 km (7.5 miles) Lauterbrunnen - Stechelberg trail glides along the banks of the Weisse Lütschine River into the far end of the valley, catering for both classic and skating styles. In Blumental, high above Mürren, you'll find the sunny 2 km (1.2 miles) Mürren -Sonnenberg run, and in Grindelwald the 17 km (10.5 miles) track Grindelwald - Grund offer something for all levels of ability. Tobogganing: You'll be spoilt for choice with a wide variety of super-long, thrilling toboggan runs. Tobogganing has a long tradition in the area: the familiar wooden toboggans are still often used as a means of transport on snow covered village streets and paths and the well known "Grindelwald" model is in the village. Tobogganing remains a great favourite with all age groups, local people and guests alike. Equipment can be hired at local sports shops and night-time tobogganing is organized by the local ski school. Don't miss the exciting annual toboggan race Sulwald - Isenfluh, held in February.
