in the Grindelwald - Jungfrau Snowsports Region

The Grindelwald - Jungfrau Region offers 213 km / 132 miles of groomed runs, but also numerous off-piste itineraries for skiers and snowboarders of all levels and interests.
The Grindelwald - Jungfrau Region offers a total of 213 km (132 miles) of groomed runs. There are 3 sectors: the largest, the "Kleine Scheidegg - Männlichen" links the two resorts of Grindelwald and Wengen by means of slopes and mountain rides, while the other mountains, the "Grindelwald - First" and the "Mürren - Schilthorn" are lone standing and only accessible from the respective resort. 42 mountain rides
starting at 944 m (3,097 ft) asl provide for easy access to the mountains and hills of the Jungfrau Region up to as high as 2,971 m (9,745 ft) at the Schilthorn. There are more than one hundred runs - approx. 30% of blue runs (beginners), 50% of red runs (intermediate) and 20% of black runs (advanced). There's ample snow-making (on 60% of the slopes) to guarantee skiing and snowboarding all season.



numerous options for skiers and snowboarders in the Grindelwald - Jungfrau Region Snowsports Area.The Jungfrau Region, and in particular Wengen is famous for its Lauberhorn Ski Race, with 4.5 km (2.8 miles) the longest downhill race on the World Cup. Initiated in 1928 by some Englishmen, Mürren as well has its traditional ski race, the "Inferno", 15.8 km (9.8 miles) all the way down to Lauterbrunnen, and with 1,850 participants the largest amateur ski race in the world. However, the Jungfrau Region also provides for plenty of options for beginner and intermediate skiers and snowboarders, as well as for small children; in all three resorts the ski schools offer ski gardens. Further, there are three snowparks and a ski-cross run for free-stylers, numerous off-piste itineraries for freeriders, and with a helicopter base in Lauterbrunnen, several landing sites in the region, plus other popular peaks of the Bernese and the Valais Alps are easily reached for heli-skiing.


Grindelwald Mountains:
Grindelwald - First:
Grindelwald - First offers attractive options for snowsports enthusiasts of all levels and interests.From the centrally located station in the upper village of Grindelwald, the First Aerial Cableway takes skiers and snowboarders up to the First at 2,168 m (7,112 ft). The ride via the two middle-stations of Bort and Schreckfeld, takes approx. 25 minutes. The First offers a total of 9 mountain rides - in addition to the three sections of the Firstbahn, there are three skilifts and three chairlifts, including the Oberjoch which gets to this ski areas's highest point at 2,500 m (8,200 ft). 50 km (31 miles) of groomed slopes of all levels, two snowparks, a ski-cross run, several off-piste options, a paragliding starting point, the "First-Flyer" zip-rider, several sledding runs (including Europe's longest run - 15 km / 9.5 miles from the Faulhorn to Grindelwald), winter hiking trails and a dozen mountain huts, restaurants and bars complete the attractive offer of the First mountain.


Kleine Scheidegg - Männlichen:
Kleine Scheidegg - Maennlichen, the snowsports area in the Jungfrau Region situated at the foot of the impressive peaks of Eiger, Moench and Jungfrau in the Bernese Alps.The Kleine Scheidegg - Männlichen Snowsports Area is reached from Grindelwald Grund at 944 m (3,097 ft) within 24 minutes by cog railway to the Kleine Scheidegg at 2,061 m (6,760 ft), or within 30 minutes by cable car to the Männlichen at 2,230 m (7,315 ft). The two areas are linked and together offer 21 mountain rides (mainly chairlifts, but also some skilifts, cable cars and the cog railway) and 110 km (68 miles) of groomed runs (all levels, but mainly intermediate). The highest point at 2,320 m (7,610 ft) is the Eigergletscher, reached either by the Salzegg Skilift or the Jungfrau Railway which stops on its way to the Jungfraujoch, Europe's highest railway station at 3,454m (11,330 ft), the "Top of Europe". Great views, but no skiing at the Jungfraujoch...; however, there are some good off-piste runs near the base of the Eiger North Face, in particular the popular "White Hare". The Kleine Scheidegg - Männlichen area further offers more than a dozen mountain huts, restaurants and bars on the slopes, toboggan runs, winter hiking and snow-shoe trekking trails.


Mürren - Schilthorn:
Muerren - Schilthorn, the highest altitude ski area of the Jungfrau Region and the Bernese Oberland.
At 2,971 m (9,745 ft), Mürren – Schilthorn is the highest-altitude skiing area in the Bernese Oberland with the best views of the peaks of Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau. From Mürren at 1,634 m (5,360 ft), within 17 minutes, the Schilthorn Cable Car brings skiers and snowboarders via the Birg middle-station up to the top, the Piz Gloria with its famous revolving restaurant. The black run from the Schilthorn is for advanced skiers / snowboarders only. However, there are plenty of options for beginners and intermediate snowsports enthusiasts: 12 mountain rides (3 cable car, 6 chairlifts, 2 skilifts and 1 funicular) and 53 km (33 miles) of groomed slopes link the various mountains and hills of Muerren such as the Birg, Obere Hubel, Winteregg or the Allmendhubel, a popular place for families and kids. The Allmendhubel also is accessed by a funicular directly from the center of Muerren. Further, the Muerren - Schilthorn snowsports area offers a snowpark and several off-piste itineraries for freestylers and freeriders, winter hiking trails, toboggan runs, and of course, numerous restaurants and mountain huts along the slopes. From Grindelwald, the fastest way to get to Mürren is by car or train via Zweilütschinen to Lauterbrunnen (36 minutes by train), then either by bus to Stechelberg and then with the Schilthorn Cable Car to Müerren (30 minutes), or by cable car up to the Grütschalp and by train via Winteregg to Muerren (20 minutes), then a short walk to either the Schilthorn Cable Car or the Allmendhubel Funicular. It also is possible to access the Muerren - Schilthorn ski area from Winteregg (54 minutes by train from Grindelwald), or via Kleine Scheidegg - Männlichen, then skiing / snowboarding down to Wengen, and by train to Lauterbrunnen.


Snow Parks:
First Snow Parks:
The Snowparks of the First Snowsports area offer kickers, boxes and rails for beginner and advanced freestylers.The First mountain features two snowparks:
- The "Pro Park" is located at the Bärgelegg Skilift. Elements: Different sized kickers (5-25 m / 16-82 ft), various boxes and rails, on 850 m (2,790 ft) park length. The park is designed so that kickers, boxes and rails can be combined in one run.
- The "Beginner Park", located at the Oberjoch Chairlift, is perfect to gain the first park experiences, to warm up or to learn new tricks on simple elements. Elements: a 4-kicker line (about 5 m / 16 ft tables), a box line, waves and troughs.
Further, freestylers also might want to try the ski-cross run located at the Schilt Chairlift.

Muerren Snowpark:
The "Im Rad Funpark" - Muerren's Snowpark in the Jungfrau Snowsports region.

Muerren's snowpark, the “Im Rad Funpark” is easily accessed directly from the village via the Schiltgrat chairlift (near the Schilthorn station). Elements: kickers, various slides and boxes; depending on snow conditions, the park also offers a halfpipe.





Heli-Skiing:

There are four helicopter landing sites in the mountains of the Jungfrau Region that are reached in a short time from the helicopter base in the Lauterbrunnen Valley. The Ebnefluh (3,850 m / 12,628 ft), Rosenegg (3,450 m / 11,316 ft), Petersgrat (3,200 m / 10,496 ft) and Sustenlimmi (3,200 m / 10,496 ft) all offer various itineraries for great off-piste experiences. Further destinations in the Bernese and the Valais Alps are possible on request.

Snowsports Schools in Grindelwald offer private and group lessons for kids and adults.

In Grindelwald / Kleine Scheidegg, six snowsports schools offer group instruction, private lessons, carving, Telemark, freeriding and heli-skiing, cross-country skiing, snowboarding, tobogganing, torch-light descent and snowshoeing excursions, and more....
